Mounting an Exhibition at the National Galleries of Scotland – from Concept to Opening

Dr Allerston is Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Scottish National Gallery. She is a trained historian whose research on the second-hand clothes trade in early modern Venice and on aspects of European material culture has been published in a number of peer-reviewed British and European publications. Dr Allerston is a graduate in History from the University of Edinburgh and she was a lecturer in the History department at Edinburgh between 1997 and 2005 before leaving to become Head of Education at the National Galleries of Scotland. She is involved with the Beauty by Design: Fashioning the Renaissance, research project and network, joint-founded and led with Mal Burkinshaw (Head of Fashion, ECA) and Dr Jill Burke (Art History) at The University of Edinburgh.
