Father and Son

An exhibition of work by Alexander Dakers and his late father.

Alexander is bringing a free and sentimental exhibition to Glasgow in homage to his late dad. Alexander’s father was a supporter of human rights and many charities helping to raise thousands for Amnesty International. 

The artist was a former student at the Glasgow School of Art, and was also taught by his father Alexander Stuart Dakers. The show is not only designed to display both of the creators’ works but is also to help anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Alexander explains, “I want this show to attract people who may have lost someone. I want people who may be grieving to come along and for this to help them feel some kind of connection. For the exhibition, I wanted to clash both of our artworks together and show our pieces in one place. It is a sentimental show about loss and beauty of life.”

Artwork by Alexander has been framed by designer, Keith Lauffer – Alexander’s childhood best friend.
The handmade wooden frames are made from old whisky barrels.

The exhibition was seen on Sky Arts TV and in London recently, as well as being covered by The Glasgow Times

“My themes change a lot, as I’m diverse in my work and switch techniques depending on the topic. Behind all my artwork is the message of human rights. I think it’s important to enjoy artwork and be open-minded in everything. I enjoy surprising people with the diversity of artwork. I enjoy using oils and I’m very daring with my work. My father loved the sea, and it’s not surprising that I love painting the ocean. I think it’s important to pay more attention and respect to nature.”

 

The exhibition Father & Son runs 19th June till the 4th July 2024 11am-5pm
