Description

Venus after Pierre-Paul Prud’hon by Sarmed Mirza

Charcoal on Strathmore paper

21.5 x 13 inches (54.6 x 33 cms)

This was my first charcoal drawing at the atelier.

I may have thought I chose to draw this Venus but as recently I embarked on a painting project which turned out to be Venus as well, I am suspicious that it maybe the other way around.

This image will always be special to me as in addition to being my first charcoal and it was my also first completed figure.

Pierre-Paul Prud’hon (April 4, 1758 – February 16, 1823) was a French Romantic painter and draughtsman best known for his allegorical paintings and portraits.

In particular, he painted a portrait of each of Napoleon’s wives.
