Description

Clachan Sands is an area on the island of North Uist, famed for its pale yellow sand and turquoise sea forming a pristine wide estuary.
On a bright sunny day, the light here is incredibly pure revealing a wonderful spectrum of colours in this beautiful landscape.
As with many of my favourite places on North Uist, Clachan Sands is a place that compels me to paint it. I find myself gazing at it, wanting to describe it’s colours and contours over and over again in oils, from the water retreating off the wet sand as the tide goes out, to the hills of Harris and Lewis disappearing into the distance in a haze of pale blues and greys. It’s almost unreal in its perfection.
