Hugh Bryden was born in Dumfries in 1950 graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and worked as an art teacher  in Dumfries and Galloway for thirty years. Throughout his teaching career he continued to practice as a printmaker and painter. He was a regular exhibitor in national and international exhibitions and was involved for a number of years in the Art gallery business in Dumfries. 

He formed Cacafuego Press with writer and poet Tom Pow in 2000 and they produced a number of award winning books and pamphlets.

In August 2005 he gave up full time teaching to concentrate on printmaking and publishing artists books and poetry pamphlets. His Imprint Roncadora Press has won, and been shortlisted, for awards at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh and the British Library in London. His books are held in major collections throughout the UK, in the Library of Congress, Washington and the Carey Graphic Art Collection in Rochester New York. USA. 

Hugh Has taught masterclasses in printing and book-arts in workshops and institutions in the UK and USA and has had a number of Artist in Residence placements. He continues to exhibit  books and prints internationally  and write poetry and short stories in scots and english.
