About

Nikoline Sonasson (b. Copenhagen, 1997) became a member of the photography club in Helsingør in 2014, and through the club became a photography judge for for the competitions across the clubs in Denmark. In 2018 she started studying Photography at VERA School of Art & Design, and did an advance course in the start of 2019.

In 2023 she graduated from Glasgow school of art with a first class honours degree in fine art photography.

Sonasson’s focus lies in how to make people more aware of the environmental crisis we are in through art, in her analogue lens-based practice, Sonasson makes work that puts the landscape, environment and the impact humans have on nature in focus by exploring different landscapes and what humans are doing to help regain the wilderness back. Sonasson investigates what time does to a landscape, how the change of landscape leaves behind a new land, and how that land develops through time. Her deep care/ connection to nature is visible in her photographs, and comes through sensible matters of showing the work. Trying to change her own practice into a more sustainable one, she explores sustainable developing processes of film photography.
