About

Lizzie Little, born 1999, is a Glasgow-based contemporary figurative artist and graduate in Fine Art: Painting & Printmaking at The Glasgow School of Art 2017-2021

Little depicts the human figure, faces, characters, and the spaces they encounter. She is interested in lifting the curtain on what happens in the domestic space, whether relationally, intimately, or in the mundanity of everyday objects sitting in our kitchen cupboards. She explores the materiality of paint and the linen and canvas grounds of her work, as they become an integral texture, colour and detail of the ingredients to creating an artwork, and not just a surface to accommodate paint. The philosophies of the life room are a vital influence on Little’s practice, which led her to co-creating and establishing her own life drawing group, Glasgow Portrait and Figure in 2020-21.

Little has been exhibited in various shows around Glasgow, including recently The Scottish Prize for Fine Art 2023, as well Rabbit Skin at the Glue Factory in 2020 and The Alternative Degree Show Festival 2021. Little’s painting ‘The Compromised’, from her degree showcase ‘The Lovers Triptych’, was featured as the headline image in Giles Sutherland’s The Sunday Times review of the 2021 GSA showcase, where he describes the “talented…figurative painter’s” reimagining themes of love and war, inspired by Botecelli’s Venus and Mars.

Lizzie Little is currently represented by contemporary gallery artpistol, where her work was selected and exhibited in the Best of Scottish Art Schools ‘21 showcase.
