Abstract:
Based on Bruce Peter’s recent book ‘The Modern Hotel in Britain’, this lecture focuses on Scottish examples of significant Art Deco and Modernist hotel buildings and interiors from the 1920s until the 1970s. The Beresford in Glasgow will be featured, as will numerous other pre- and post-war examples – ranging from city centre hotels to roadhouses, from airport hotels to leisure resorts, such as the controversial Aviemore Centre. The presentation will be richly illustrated with period photographs of buildings, interiors and publicity material.
