Glasgow Art Club Hostes Children's Picnic - Saturday 15th October 2008 NEWS RELEASE by McGarvie Morrison on behalf of GAC GLASGOW ART CLUB SET TO HOST CHILDREN'S PICNIC One of Glasgow’s most prestigious art establishments, the Glasgow Art Club, is to host a picnic in its gallery space as part of an effort to increase access to the Club and appeal to wider audience. Around a hundred children will eat sandwiches in the gallery before attending a performance of The Slava Snowshow at the King’s Theatre on Saturday 15th November. The day out has been organised by NADFAS - The National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society – for its junior members across Scotland. Each year NADFAS organise a gathering that is both fun and educational at the same time. The Art Club will showcase its gallery space and other artefacts and paintings by its artist members. Charles Anderson, President of the Glasgow Art Club, said: “We are delighted to host the children's’ picnic on behalf of NADFAS – it opens up a whole new audience to the Club and fits well with our efforts to become more accessible and inclusive. The Glasgow Art Club is one of the most prestigious of art establishments in the City and it is fantastic to be able to showcase the wonderful Mackintosh Gallery and other hidden treasures to young people in Scotland. I hope this becomes a regular event for both NADFAS members and non-members alike.” Judy Shaw Smith, committee member at NADFAS, added: “We’re very pleased the Art Club are able to host our picnic. It’s a perfect venue for the purposes of the NADFAS gathering and provides not only a stunning place to eat our picnic, but it also gives an insight into the rich artistic and cultural heritage here in Glasgow. The Club really is a hidden gem in the city and I am sure the children will have a fabulous time unearthing it.” |

Unclubbed@the GAC - Friday 14th November 2008 Another Unclubbed event on the 14th was a roaring success with the Gallery full of young, enthusiastic musicians and gig-goers. The gallery was adorned with dried leaves, sprigs of berries and candle light for a cosy ambience; hard to create in such a large space. Unclubbed regulars Dan and Phil of Jack in the Green got the evening off to an energetic start with their repertoire of favourites and some new material too. They were followed by the angel voiced Erin Hill and the event welcomed newcomers, husband and wife duo, The Paperback Throne who did in fact attend a wedding at the Club earlier in the month. They will be back to perform at the January Unclubbed@the GAC event hopefully, with the remainder of their band, The Sea Kings, Thanks again go to Dan for his unfailing devotion to bringing these nights seamlessly together, and to John in the kitchen for a very fine spread which warmed many a cold soul on the evening. Look out for the very festive Christmas Unclubbed on 19th December from 7.30pm onwards. |

Hazel Nagl & Jennifer Irvine Exhibition Opening - Saturday 25th October 2008 Following a hearty buffet provided by our Chef, which was attended by almost 60 people, the exhibition opening got off to a fabulous start with an audience of nearly 200 people who had braved the elements to come and see the show. Nearly half of the 57 paintings on show were sold that day alone, with sales continuing up until the very last day. Congratulations and thanks go to both Hazel and Jennifer on putting together another successful exhibition, which also provided a beautiful backdrop for a very pleased bride and groom on their wedding day at the beginning of November. |

Celebration Dinner 9 November 2007The emphasis was definitely on socialising rather than speechifying though this excellent opportunity was taken by our President and Lay Vice President to thank all those who had helped make the first phase of the restoration of 185 Bath Street a success. Many thanks to Inverarity Vaults for donating the champagne which started the evening with a fizz, to the chef and the Club staff who served a marvellous dinner and to Richard whose piano playing gave some of us the chance to dance till midnight.- Click on the thumbnails for a larger image |
