Description

From the Series: The Volatile Hues of Silver Halides

Beginning with the series ‘Invisible Life Force of Plants’, this project evolved from research surrounding botany in the 17th – 19th century and how plants we often encounter every day have originally come from another place. Driven by undertones of economic power and pride against the backdrop of the transatlantic trade, these plants were taken from their places of origin and transported globally for a myriad of reasons, for food, medicine, beauty, religion and love.

from March to mid-July 2020, I sat absorbed by the transformation of a rich buttermilk cream paper into asparagus green, greenish steel blue, cool dove grey or the richest ultramarine blue. All credit to the volatile nature of silver nitrate suspended in gelatine.
