Description

Collecting bricks from ancient houses being demolished was the beginning of my artistic work process about the transformation of material.
Bricks of a specific house were ground, and the dust sifted to produce pigments allowing all the weight and earthiness to be released.
Eventually, paint was made from the pigment and applied with brushstrokes on Chinese paper in a performative method, creating an abstract representation of the building just by its pure colour.
The pigments for the Mei Ting Ocker and Red works in this exhibition were collected 2007 in an abandoned town near Fuzhou whilst it was being demolished.
