Description
The Isle of Barra, one of the beautiful Western Isles, nestles in among a sprinkling of smaller islands sitting to the south of the Island of Eriskay.
This painting was inspired by a day on the water, pottering around Barra, gazing back at the beautiful beaches of Eriskay.
On bright clear days, the pure light and spectrum of colours of The Western Isles are second to none, constantly stopping me in my tracks with their clarity and beauty. They are an endless source of subject matter for me to paint, always challenging me to translate what I see, using paint and surface, to transport the viewer to this spot, in this light.
In this painting I have used palate knife and brush to form texture to describe sand and rock, while smooth brushstrokes describe sea and sky.
