About

Margaret Johnston, an artist based in Ayrshire, graduated from the Glasgow College of Building & Printing with a background in Interior/Exhibition design. She spent five years as an exhibition designer at Paisley Museum & Art Gallery, where she designed the notable ‘Paisley 500’ Exhibition, inaugurated by HRH the Queen.

She has since shifted her focus to her own oil painting creations and works from her WASP studio in the artist’s courtyard in Irvine. Actively participating in the Scottish art scene, Margaret showcases her work in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Kirkcudbright, and Ayrshire. She has advanced her painting skills by attending workshops led by renowned artists such as Daniel Keys and Alex Venezia.

As a member of the Glasgow Art Club, Paisley Art Institute, Scottish Society of Women Artists, and Society of Scottish Artists, Margaret was awarded the prestigious Paisley Art Institute James Curr trophy in 2023.

Currently, Margaret contributes to the exhibition committee at the Glasgow Art Club and serves as a Charity Ambassador for Whiteleys Retreat, a children’s charity offering therapeutic getaways for those with cancer and life-altering illnesses.
