JANUARY - JUNE 2024

24th January 2024 - Katherine Bryan (Flute) and Ed Cohen (Piano)

In a welcome return to Westbourne, we are pleased to have Katherine Bryan, Principal Flute of the RSNO, and a renowned concerto soloist, joined by Edward Cohen, a versatile and in-demand pianist who collaborates with top musicians in Scotland. They are both RCS lecturers and have been featured as a duo on BBC Radio and Classic FM.

 

7th February 2024Simon Fischer (Violin)

World-famous violinist Simon Fischer is delighted to perform an exhilarating programme for Westbourne Music. The programme includes masterpieces from the violin and piano repertoire, as well as lesser-known gems, such as Fischer's transcription of Fanny Mendelssohn's 'Notturno', here receiving its first performance following publication by Edition Peters.

 

14th February 2024 - RCS Opera School

Returning after their phenomenal popularity with audiences over the last five seasons, the Alexander Gibson Opera School will present a varied programme of operatic arias showcasing the best of young singing talent training in Scotland. This is the first of their two performances this season.

 

 

21st February 2024 - Aaron Shorr and Fali Pavri (Piano)

We are delighted to have this unique opportunity to present two of the finest pianists that Scotland has to offer. To have the Head of Keyboard and the Associate Head of Keyboard from the RCS in a four hand recital promises to be a superb performance you would not want to miss.

 

 

6th March 2024Soteria Ensemble

Soteria is a dynamic piano trio that formed at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Initially started in 2019, the trio consisted of Daria, Sarah and Edyta, and in 2012/22, expanded their ensemble by inviting violinist Laetitia, forming a stable ensemble, known for their passion and versatility.

 

 

20th March 2024 - Aura Ensemble (Baroque)

Members of the Aura Ensemble all hail from different corners of the world but are united through their shared appreciation of early music repertoire and in particular the Baroque period. The group consists of active musicians in Glasgow’s vibrant classical music scene: Ines Mayhew-Begg (Soprano), Tiffany Vong (Harpsichord), Marina Sanchez Cabello (Cello), and Sagnick Mukherjee (Violin), all graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

 

3rd April 2024 -The Wallace Collection Quintet

In celebration of John's 75th year, John Wallace and The Wallace Collection quintet will share a variety of works from their current research, including the first known performances of some recently re-discovered mid-19th century gems played on original period instruments.

 

 

17th April 2024 - Andrew McTaggart (Voice) and Andrew Forbes (Piano)

Baritone Andrew McTaggart and pianist Andrew Forbes will perform a varied programme of English songs inspired by folk traditions and the rich heritage of British poetry. Spanning the Atlantic over the last century, we will hear songs by Samuel Barber, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Errollyn Wallen, Frank Bridge, Muriel Herbert and Nico Muhly.

 

 

1st May 2024 - Marianna Abrahamyan (Piano) and Lewis Banks (Saxophone)

Scottish saxophonist Lewis Banks and Armenian pianist Marianna Abrahamyan met at an audition in 2017, and by 2019 had made their London debut at The Purcell Room.  No strangers to diverse and adventurous programming, the duo will deliver a singular recital experience at the Glasgow Art Club, combining the sublimity of Bach with the fiery, flamenco influences of Santiago Baez (via Bizet and Ella Fitzgerald) and everything in-between.

 

 

15th May 2024 - RCS Opera School

5th June 2024 - Spanish Roses: Marina Sanchez-Cabello (Cello) and Ana Romero (Trumpet)

A distinctive and captivating collaboration that combines the expressive power of the trumpet with the rich and resonant tones of the cello. This dynamic duo creates an innovative and unique blend of sound that is both passionate and melodious. Each instrument shines individually while creating a cohesive and harmonious whole. A celebration of Latin rhythms with many surprises to mark the end of the 2023/24 season.
