Artist Biography — Pia Amlott

Between sculpture and adornment: objects shaped by process and place.

Pia Amlott is a Glasgow-based artist and jewellery designer whose practice explores the relationship between material, landscape and story.

She holds an M.Phil in Art, Design and Architecture from the Glasgow School of Art, where her early work in silver-smithing and jewellery design, developed a lasting sensitivity to surface, texture and hand-built structure. This foundation continues to inform her contemporary work in clay, sand and precious metals, where she works through wax carving, lost-wax casting and experimental salt-casting techniques that allow process and material to determine the final outcome.

Her pieces are characterised by organic architectural forms and tactile surfaces inspired by the unique Scottish coastline, geological textures and weathered landscapes. Working with recycled fine metals, her objects sit between sculpture and adornment — pieces to be worn, yet equally to be contemplated.

Pia has exhibited as a Guest Artist at the Glasgow Art Club and is now an Artist Member. She has also worked as Artist in Residence in Qatar and Jeweller is Residence in Glasgow, experiences that deepened her ongoing interest in sharing traditional making processes across cultures and communities.

Alongside her studio practice, Pia brings extensive experience in designing learning experiences through the arts. This commitment to creative education continues to inform how she shares heritage craft processes with wider audiences through workshops and experiential settings.

Through her work, Pia seeks to preserve the integrity of hand-making in a contemporary context, creating objects that carry a strong sense of place, process and story.
