About Rosaleen Orr

Rosaleen Orr graduated from Glasgow School of Art, where her teachers were David Donaldson Geoffrey Squire and William and Mary Armour. She attended Hospitalfield Summer School under the tutelage of James McLaughlin Milne. She then exhibited in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Hamburg.

In 1987 she took early retirement as Principal Teacher of Art at Saint Roch's School in the east end of Glasgow. She then ran "Studio Arts", a private school for the arts with husband Robert Mulhern. They then moved to Kilbarchan and opened " Studio Arts Gallery", selling such artists as Hunter, Strang, Donaldson, as well as the Glasgow Print Makers.

In 1993 Rosaleen won the MacFarlane Trust Award at the Scottish Drawing Competition of the Paisley Institute of the Fine Arts. In 2003 she won a joint first prize in the McCash Scots Poetry Competition of Glasgow University organised by the Herald. Later she was invited to contribute to "The Wallace Muse" published by Luath Press.

Rosaleen and Robert had a joint retrospective exhibition in 2006 in the Glasgow Art Club, where they are both elected artist members. In the same year they took part in an exhibition and poetry reading where opera singers Claire Rutter and George Mosley sang. This took place in the London salons of Roubi L'Roubi, fashion designer.

Rosaleen has many works in private collections here and abroad and in corporate collections including Scottish Power and Grant Thornton. She has painted many portraits including those of Jimmy Logan, Jo Beltrami, Edwin Morgan, Claire Rutter and Stephen Gadd. Carrying on the Armour tradition, at Mary Armour's suggestion, she has painted oils and pastels over theyears of some of the beautiful children of Kilbarchan.
